Safe Waters Mission Statement

Safe Waters is dedicated to providing a safe, supportive, and empowering space for Coast Guard members who have experienced sexual assault and harassment within the Service. Our mission is to foster healing, promote resilience, bolster prevention, and create a community where survivors are empowered to share their experiences and find solidarity.

Objectives

- Support: To offer emotional support and understanding among members, facilitating healing through shared experiences.

- Empowerment: To empower survivors by providing resources, information, and tools to navigate their healing journeys.

- Awareness: To raise awareness about sexual assault and harassment and advocate for systemic changes within military institutions.

- Community Building: To cultivate a sense of belonging and connection among members, encouraging open dialogue and mutual respect.

Activities

- Support Meetings: Regularly scheduled gatherings where members can share their stories and feelings in a safe, confidential environment.

- Workshops: Educational sessions focused on trauma recovery, self-care strategies, and coping mechanisms.

- Guest Speakers: Inviting professionals and advocates to discuss relevant topics, including legal rights, mental health, and self-advocacy.

- Resource Sharing: Providing information on mental health services, legal assistance, and support networks tailored to military survivors.

Membership

- Open to all individuals who have experienced sexual assault and harassment while serving in the military, regardless of gender or background.

- New members are welcomed with compassion and understanding, ensuring a non-judgmental atmosphere.

Code of Conduct

- Members are expected to respect confidentiality, practice empathy, and support one another without judgment. A zero-tolerance policy for harassment and discrimination is enforced to maintain a safe space.

- Safe Waters is not a platform for any activist group and is intolerant of harmful activities, predatory behaviors, and accusatory actions.
